I'd like to talk about books with other readers.
I've been dealing with the pandemic hibernation by going on a massive reading (and scrubbing) jag; which has been great for escapism, but I sometimes miss exchanges with actual live persons (as opposed to discussions with fictional characters, hee).
So I'd love book recommendations, if you have good ones to share. Or I could recommend stuff, if you're low on ideas for new reads. Or we could just chitchat about books and exchange strategies for decimating libraries while everyone else is watching Netflix. :D We could even read a book together, if the stars are properly aligned.
I like most genres of fiction.
My favorites are fantasy and sci-fi (especially grimdark), mystery/crime (especially hard-boiled), horror (especially occult/supernatural/weird; not keen on gratuitous gore), or noir and Gothic novels.
But really, I'm willing to check out almost anything good.
I'm not very enthusiastic about nonfiction, YA books or pre-1900 literature, though.
Also, not to be rude, but I've already received several Stephen King, Anne Rice and Dean Koontz recommendations; which is fair enough, but I'm mostly looking for titles and authors beyond the usual suspects. :)
Everyone is welcome. Even if you're not really in the mood for a fullblown conversation, or if you think I sound boring (for which opinion I'd forgive you, xD), don't be shy to drop me a quick note about good (or horrible) books you've read lately. I don't promise to read everything immediately, but I'm always interested to add titles to the to-read pile.
Currently reading (as of Feb 25): 'Piranesi' by Susanna Clarke, and 'Dance of the Damned', by Alan Bligh. |
