Anyone passionate about travel?
Hi, my name is Nick and I currently live in England. I say currently because that could change. So far, I have lived and worked in Spain, renovating a house, but this was something I did with friends as an experience. With my proper job, I have lived in Austria, Norway, Belgium, Luxembourg, Scotland and Malta.
There's a big difference between visiting somewhere and living there as you become integral to the country, getting to know locals and how they live their lives, and being able to attend year-round events.
Of course, my travel hasn't only been with work. I was introduced to travel from a very young age by my father, who encouraged us to see and experience new places. As soon as I was old enough to go by myself, I toured around Europe with a tent, and around West Africa. With my own family, I have seen a lot of Asia including Thailand, Vietnam, Borneo and China a few times. I have tried to encourage my own daughters to branch out and see the world.
Part of the experience is the food and I try to recreate the flavours when I return home, but part of the experience of the food is the location.
At the age of 59, I have visited 34 countries. Memories that can't be discarded. I need to see more, although now, unfortunately, I travel alone. My list of places I want to visit include India, Sri Lanka, Japan, Indonesia, South Africa and the Caribbean. I love sailing, mountains and cooking and dream of owning a small Taverna overlooking the sea, where I can take a small boat out to fish, shop in a local market, and then open my doors for an evening of entertainment.
